Printer sharing RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have XP on one computer and Vista on the wireless on.  The wireless computer sees the printers in the PC but with a yellow triangle that says get help.  I have read the troubleshooting online and in this site to no avail.  I have re-booted several times, stopped and re-started OneCare a few times.  The remote wireless sees the printers on the PC, as I said, but the PC only shows that there are no printers on the wireless one.  The printer menue shows the printers being shared.

Also, I have changed email address since I bought OneCare but cannot change my address in OneCare until I renew my subscription which means that I cannot be contacted at the email address on record.

    Help please

  • Try the following:

Open OneCare on each of the computers.

    Click Change Settings

On the firewall tab, click configure firewall

If the network is shown as Public, click Change Location to change it to "Home or Work."

    Click the Advanced Settings button

    Click Network connections tab.

If there are multiple active connections shown, you may need to disable them in your Windows network connections settings. (Network and Sharing Center, manage connections, in Vista; Right click My Network Places and select Properties on the Start menu in XP)

On the Ports and Protocols tab, add a check mark next to File and Printer Sharing - for subnet and Internet if the first setting alone (after all of the above are verified) does not allow Sharing to work.

If all of the above fail, please contact support.

For your email address change, you cannot change the LiveID for your subscription. The best thing to do is to contact support shortly before renewal to close the current subscription and open a new one. If you activated your existing subscription with a retail key, and no credit card is on file at http://billing.microsoft.com, purchase another retail copy and when the current subscription expires, uninstall OneCare and reinstall it and activate a new subscription with your new email address and new key.
