WHS unable to connect RRS feed

  • Question

  • Ok since yesterday afternoon I have been running into problem after problem with WHS. It started when my wife and I settled down to watch a movie last night, granted I have tversity successfully installed and works flawlessly, so I know it can be that. Anyway if the movie needs to be transcode it took about 6-7 mins to load the movie up, then a few times I got xbox 360 lost connection to server. So until 2am last night I was fiddling away trying to find out what it was. In the end I connected it to a monitor and keyboar & mouse, and I got to the WHS boot screen and it froze. I took the Sata PCI card out and it booted up, so I thought it might be that, then I plug the card in and took the HDD out and it worked perfectly. I have tried various things but to no difinitive end. Now I can connected my PC to the server using WHS console but can remote desktop it, I have uninstalled the connector software and trying to install it again, and it cant locate the server. My wife's PC can connect to the server although theConnector Icon is grey and says its not connected. I have managed to get it up and running for the time being, but wondering how long before it happens again.

    My WHS is like this.

    Biostar M2 Motherboard
    AMD Sempron 2.2GHz AM2 Processor
    1GB 800MHz DDR2 Ram
    600w PSU
4x 500GB Hdds connected to Sata connectors on Motherboard
    1x 500GB IDE HDD
1x 500GB Sata Drive connected to a PCI Sata card
    PCI Sata card.

  • I can access the server through the shared folder on the pc desktop and through start then network. yes I am able to copy files over. but I cannot access it through the console, also when I use 360 I can access the files through both Tversity and the Server folders, but they are really slow to access, I have been messing on all night to find the problem, which included me unplugging the Sata PCI card and re-installation of the server partion, then I found the NOD32 was causing problems so I had to remove that. the server icon is still grey.

I have just uninstalled then re-installed the connector software and its green at present.

Did you have NOD32 on your server?  If so, that is known to cause problems.  You should only use an A/V on the server that is WHS-aware.

Are you able to successfully ping your server (both by name and by IP address)?  Just to clarify:  are you able to read/copy/delete files stored on the shares from all of your client PCs?

  • Well I uninstalled it and instal Fsecure Home Server edition, granted its a trial but will do for now, is there any suggestions, other than avast as that caused problems for me aswell. Also managed to get everything back up and running, and PP2 got installed, the only problem I have now, is tversity wont work properly, I get serious lagging when transcoding and problems, when playing any films needed to be transcoded, but everything else works, films, that are properly encoded work without a hitch.

That's the only other one.  What type of problems did you have with avast!?  Mine works fine.

  • I had the Avast Home Server one installed before but themmy trial ran out, I have been using a Normal version of Avast. Plus there was that problem of uninstalling it from the addins. Like I said in my previous post. It seems like everything is working, its just tversity that wont now, so I have to conver my video files to the right format, so they can play.
