Does Windows Home Server 2011 need an antivirus? RRS feed

  • Question

  • So, I bought Windows Home Server 2011 and it has Windows Defender(protects from spyware and other unwanted software).

Do you need anything more, I wanted to put Microsoft Security Essentials on it, but would that even run on it?

On antivirus programs it never has Windows Server listed on it.

  • I have never installed AV software on my servers but then again, I never use them for browsing the internet. All the machines that connect to the servers have their own AV software installed. Security Essentials will not run on WHS and indeed few will - try a search on this forum for some potential solutions f you think you need one.

  • Thank you, good answer. I'll just use Windows Defender and Windows Firewall. Keep it up to date, etc.
