Installing Home Server RRS feed

  • I want to install Home Server on my PC that is running Win XP (service Pak 3 ) First can I do this...I do not want to install Win Home server on a seperate PC?
    This PC is my main PC in my HOme. It is directly connect to the internet (wired )..It is NOT a dedicated erver.

  • Windows Home Server is intended to be used as a standalone dedicated server. It isn't a set of components that you can install on another operating system (such as Windows XP). Since when you install it it will format every drive in the system, you can't install it on pre-existing hardware that's in current use without major data loss or a lot of work to back up that data.

    And even once it's installed, it's not designed to be used as a desktop operating system. There are limitations and design decisions that are unimportant if you use the server as designed, but that will severely impact your use as a desktop OS.

    So no, you really can't install it on your primary (only?) PC.
