SyncToy refuses to die when scheduled in 2003 server? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there,

I appreciate that 2003 server is unsupported but if anyone can help I'd be grateful as I've yet to find a better sync tool, free or otherwise!

I have SyncToy 1.4 set to run all folder pairs as a scheduled task, echoing three NTFS folders to an external USB HDD.  Unfortunately, once run, task manager lists SynToy.exe as still being active.  This seems to cause various performance issues on the box.

Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas please?

Has anyone else experienced this behaviour on this or any other platform?  (SyncToy runs fine on my Vista machine when backing up onto the same 2003 server)

    Much obliged,

    Ian

    Hi Ian,

This answer is based on SyncToy 2.0!

SyncToy.exe is the GUI version. If you use SyncToyCmd.exe then it does its job and exits (displaying the output in a "dos-box" while running). I think it is the same in 1.4 but I do not have it at hand...
