WHS does not recognize my LG GH22S50 DVD as recordable device RRS feed

    I installed a new LG GH22S50 DVD-RW drive in my windows home server, it recognizes the drive but only as CD-R, not as DVD-RW.  I called LG support they have no idea.

    If the manufacturer doesn't know, I really don't like your chances.  :)  You can try looking for some drivers for it, but the drivers should be on their website (in which case, they should know about it).  I think the only viable option is to return the drive and exchange it, either for the same model (in the hopes that it's just that one that is broken), or for a drive from a different manufacturer.

    What kind of application you are trying to use on your WHS to write DVDs? Maybe it is not capable to run on a server OS. Burning DVDs on WHS is not supported, so this limitation is not evaluated that deep.
    Does a client machine detect the drive properly, if you put it in there?
