I am having problems with activating Vista as well. I bought at a local reseller an OEM version of Windows Vista Home Premium. I got it in a box with the red seal, the dvd has a hologram, there is a sticker on the DVD cover with a key and a hologram I installed and activated it two months ago and everything was working fine. I received during this period the Vista updates and everything was running like clockwork until this morning when i got the four options screen for validation. If i select the first option I get the message  that the product is already in use and none of the other 3 options are bringing me closer to a solution. Is this a bug? do i have to contact microsoft or the reseller of the DVD?

  • Hi, I've got the same problem, code 0xC004F050 and 0xC004E003, saying I have used up my 30 days of "free" time, but I activated my copy online like 30mins after installing it. And I installed my OEM Vista Ultimate like 2 weeks ago, so I believe that this is caused by automatic updates bug or some type of virus. Hard to say what is the cause, but this makes my working really hard...

  • Hello Nulli and Bragge,

It was unclear if either of you had tried activating by phone. This may resolve your issue. To use the "Activate by Phone" method. Please follow the below option that that best fit your given issue scenario:

    a) If you have access to the Start button: Click the Start button, and type in "slui.exe 4" in the search field and then press the "Enter" key. This will bring up the Activate by Phone dialog window. Follow the steps provided by the window. The phone activation process should only take about 6 minutes.

    b) If you do not have access to the Start button: Reboot and login to Vista, a dialog window will come up. In that window, click the option "Access computer with reduced functionality". Once you do that, Internet Explorer or Firefox browser will open. In the address bar type c:\windows\system32\slui.exe press enter and follow steps to Activate over the Phone.

If this does not resolve your issue, please download and run the Genuine Diagnostics tool at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 , then click the Windows tab, click the "Copy" button, then paste the report into a response message in this thread.

  • Let it be known that this error occured to me after downloading a patch that "supposedly" would stop SuperFetch from crashing continously.

Up until now I've been running for 2 months without issues, so this is a first to me...

Edit: Also, activation by phone is not possible because my installation ID only has 1 digit per bracket and ranges from 1 to 9.
