Turn off "firewall change notifications" balloons? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have set the "automatically change firewall settings" but I HATE the numerous balloon popups.  For some reason, our work network triggers some sort of firewall change every 2-3 minutes or so.  I'm assuming something is not responding quickly enough on the network and I'm getting barraged by balloon popups.

Is there any way to keep the "automatically change firewall" settings and suppress the balloon popups?

    Thanks,

  • As you have found, setting the option to automatically change will cause the balloon pops if the network is changed. Is your work network wireless? Perhaps it is bouncing on and off the network repeatedly?

  • Thanks for your feedback. We have gotten rid of those balloons for next beta refresh.

  • I'm getting alot of these Balloons too when I fire up my xbox360 wloc always allowing the same thing where in previous versions the Balloon only popped up once in wloc 2.0 every time I use a media connection or if I open a PC game to play it online any of those auto decting configs. I'm just happy this beta the firewall is working with my Xbox360.

I'm glad there doing something with the balloons but doing away with them altogether I think they should be set to pop up once once the firewall configs that instant what ever it might be it remembers that action pop up Balloon shows once then that's the end of it unless the firewall reset to default.

  • I am having the same problem, and would really like the balloons off. The only network I'm connected to is the wireless one in my home, and there aren't others nearby. Please help, this is annoying!

Lorin, if you are using v1.6 of OneCare, open OneCare, click on change settings, then the firewall tab and uncheck the option to automatically change firewall protection level when connecting to an unsecure network. If you are on the v2.0 beta, the prompts should not be appearing quite as often.

  • I am having the same maddening, frequent balloon problem, too. I'm using v1.6 of OneCare. Even though I'm connected to my secure home network, OneCare flips back and forth between recognizing and identifying the network and changing my firewall level between automatic and restricted and giving me a notification balloon every minute.
However, unless I really have to, I don't want to uncheck the option for OneCare to automatically change my firewall protection level when connecting to an unsecure network because I use my laptop at home and at several other locations, so I don't want to have to disable one of OneCare's useful features. Is there a better solution yet?

  • Until you are upgraded to 2.0, the only solution is to uncheck the option and configure the firewall manually when connecting to an unsecure network. The 2.0 upgrades have been delayed while some issues are investigated and corrected.
