  • Question

  • I have the MCTIP Self-Paced Training Kit ( Exams 70-640, 70-642, 70-643, 70-647 )
and am planing on going for my MCTS Windows Server Certification.

The training kit came with the Eval version of Windows Server 2008 which includes:
    Windows Server 2008 Standard
    Windows Server 2008 Enterprise
    Windows Server 2008 Datacenter

My question is: What version is best suited to install for my needs?

    Thanking you all in advance.

  • I would recommend enterprise over standard.  There are some features, such as certificates and clustering that you cannot do with standard.

and yes, just ignore the key for eval purposes.

  • Server 2008 Standard will work just fine for study purposes.

  • Thank you I am installing the Standard version. However, it is asking
me for the Key and it was not supplied. Since it is the Eval, do I just
ignore this and continue with the install?

How do i get the additional 60 days?

     Thanks

  • As I recall, when the first 60 days are up, you'll be able to basically re-up for an additional 60 days.

How to extend the Windows Server 2008 evaluation period

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948472

Evaluating Windows Server 2008 software does not require product activation. Any edition of Windows Server 2008 may be installed without activation, and it may be evaluated for 60 days. Additionally, the 60-day evaluation period may be reset (re-armed) three times. This action extends the original 60-day evaluation period by up to 180 days for a total possible evaluation time of 240 days.
