Outlook 2003 not recognized as being genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  • I installed Office 2007 in July, but not Outlook 2007.  I prefer to continue using the 2003 version because my IT guy sez Outlook 2007 does not support multiple profiles, which I require.  I recently installed a Microsoft update that verifies all my Microsoft applications are legit.  Since doing this, I get a message each time I fire up Outlook 2003, saying the application is not genuine.  I've tried reinstalling Outlook 2003 from the disks I have, but I continue to get the message.  Switching between profiles has since become practically impossible.  Any suggestions on how I might resolve the problem is appreciated.

  • Hello jtaps,

Here is  a snippet of your mgadiag report:

    OGA Data-->
Office Status: 114 Blocked VLK 2
Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 - 114 Blocked VLK 2
Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2003 - 100 Genuine
Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 - 101 Not Activated
    2007 Microsoft Office system - 100 Genuine
    OGA Version: Registered,
    Signed By: Microsoft
    Office Diagnostics: 025D1FF3-230-1_E2AD56EA-765-d003_E2AD56EA-766-0_E2AD56EA-134-800040

Your Dell Latitude D430 laptop has three installations of Office and an installation of Visio Professional 2003.

The Office installations are:  (1) a nongenuine Office Professional Edition 2003 volume licensing installation done with a blocked Volume Licensing Key; (2) a genuine retail license installation of Office System 2007; and (3) a not yet activated OEM license installation of Office Professional Edition 2003.

The report also tells us that your installation of Visio Professional 2003 is a Volume Licensing installation.  If your use of this license is not in association with the business, educational or governmental organization that is the rightful holder of this Volume License, then your use of this product is also nongenuine, regardless of the status reported by the utility.

In order to Get Genuine, our task will be to uninstall the nongenuine installation of Office Professional Edition 2003, uninstall the Volume Licensing edition of Visio Professional 2003 (if your use of this product is not covered by a Volume Licensing Agreement), then activate the not yet activated OEM license for Office Professional Edition 2003.  That will leave you with a genuine Office Professional 2007 installation along with a genuine Office 2003 installation, whose Outlook you can use.

From the Add or Remove Programs applet of Control Panel, uninstall Visio Professional 2003, and then restart.

Next uninstall the nongenuine installation of Office Professional 2003.  If you cannot tell which of the two Office Professional 2003 installations is the nongenuine one, my guess would be that it would be the one that is used more frequently than the other.

Restart twice, then post a fresh mgadiag report so we can check your progress.  Here's the link:  http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

After we verify that the correct installations have been uninstalled, we can move on to activating the OEM license for Office Professional 2003, then checking to see how much cleanup of the remnants of the nongenuine Office installation has to be done to ensure that you won't be shown any more nongenuine notices.
