Hello Brandy212,
Microsoft itself (thru its sales partner Digital River) is the only genuine authorized source for a regular consumer to purchase a Product Key for Windows online. For regular consumers, ALL OTHER sources for Windows product keys are unauthorized and are likely to yield nongenuine software.
Unfortunately, Microsoft no longer sells Windows Vista directly to the public. If you want Vista, you will have to buy full packaged product from a trusted local or online major retailer. Please stay away from online auction sites and no-name software sales sites to avoid the risk of purchasing counterfeit product.
If your newly built computer can support Windows 7 (very likely, as the system requirements for Vista and Windows 7 are almost identical), you can buy Windows 7 directly from Microsoft at the Microsoft Store: http://store.microsoft.com/home.aspx

no it will not support 7 as it is only for web searching and doc writting and is made with the smallest of everything. The fact that you cant buy the product is stupid. I will be switching to linux or will have to go elsewhere and look. And it is not very good bussiness because I will no longer purchase microsoft software of any kind. I will not be forced to purchase software I dont want. And you people wonder why there are so many unauthorized software out there lol.Wednesday, May 19, 2010 6:04 PM

Hello Brandy212,
You wrote, "The fact that you cant buy the product is stupid." You can still buy retail and OEM packages of Vista, it's just not officially offered by Microsoft for direct purchase and download anymore, as Windows 7 is the current Operating System.
If your computer is not able to run W7, then it's probably not up to running Vista, either, as they have very similar requirements. As of the moment, licenses for XP are still available in full packaged product and in OEM form, but the OEM stocks are probably very depleted as it has been out of production for almost a year. Here's an example:

In the first place you should be able to purchase any windows product with a option to use on up to 3 computers. Pay a liitle more no problem as most people have more than one. I am not going to pay 100$ for a program I already purchased. I will go with linux for this new one. paying 50$ for a product key was fine. And yes it will run vista it does not have the ram to run win 7 beside the fact I dont want win 7 should be enough. I am not going to purchase a 8cyl car when I want a 4. Thank you for your time but I will be shopping for other products.Wednesday, May 19, 2010 9:14 PM
