I can't get Wake on LAN addins to work. Does scheduled nightly backup use Wake on LAN? RRS feed

  • Question

I have tried all of the Wake on LAN addins and I can't get any of them to work.  The usual advice is to make sure that it is enabled in the operating system / ethernet driver (which I have done) and the BIOS.  I have a Sony SZ6 and in the BIOS interface doesn't offer a Wake on LAN or other likely names for this control.  The minimalist BIOS is quite normal for a Sony I think, as there are other things such as bluetooth, that are also hidden but which are clearly enabled since I use them regularly.

I want proof as to whether Wake on LAN is enabled or disabled.  Every night I leave my computer in a sleep state and my WHS successfully performs the scheduled nightly backup.  Is this clear evidence of Wake on LAN being enabled?

    answers appreciated?

  • If its not in the BIOS, then it doesn't have Wake on LAN.
As far as I know, WHS server doesn't actually use Wake on LAN to schedule a backup. Rather, the client machine itself has a schedule when to wake up.
