Retrieve old COA before anytime upgrade. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I puchased a laptop with Windows 7  Home Premium and an Anytime Upgrade key to go to Professional, which I used immediately. I subsequently purchsed a key to use the anytime upgrade to Ultimate. Unfortunately I found out later that the key was no good. It has now been too long to get a refund. Is there a way to retrieve the old windows 7 Pro upgrade key from my computer? If I buy a retail version of Ultimate, can install it over the my current Ultimate with a bad key?

    Thank you

  • You can retrieve a key from a running Windows with KeyFinder from Magical Jelly Bean Software.

Yes you can purchase a retail Ultimate and use to product key from the package to change the key at the Change Product Key link on the System Properties page.  You will not need to reinstall.
