Hard drive missing on reboot. Reseed and found. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a 20by NAS with hot swappable drives.  Most of the drives are 1TB drives, but I have 2-1.5TB Seagates (ST31500341AS).  These drives go missing after a few days the Server is up and running.  If i take the drives out and plug them back in they're found, but go missing again after a few days.

On reboot, the drives show up missing and always force me to reseed them.  Any thoughts?

  • Hi,

this could be a hardware or driver issue. Hardware - i.e. disabling or inaccessibility due to overheating, driver - i.e. Power Management and related timings to spin up again.

Can you spot any details in the event log of the server? You could also install the Add-In Homeserver Smart or a similar tool and check the status of each of the affected disks, in case they are in a critical stage.
