connecting to multiple live mesh networks?

Question
-
I'm wondering if someone could explain the consequences of connecting to more than one live mesh network (i.e. signing in with a different Live ID)? It would be convenient to use a different Live ID to provide support through remote desktop to other people, but I don't want my main ID to be associated with their network or vice versa. I'm a little scared to just try it as I don't know what effect this will have on synced folders? If I join someone else's network will my desktop become littered with their synced folders or will those disappear once I sign back in with my main ID? What happens to my synced folders if I sign in with a different ID?
It would actually be nice to have a "guest" feature, something similar to "remote assistance" where you could temporarily join someone else's network for a remote desktop session without really joining.
Thanks!

I'm on a fairly slow connection at the moment and search in the forums is a bit shaky, but this has been discussed previously, though I can't provide links to the information.
Basically, your machine is a device connected to one or more Live Mesh rings based on the LiveID. it is possible for a device to be associated with more than one Live Mesh.
It is also possible to belong to a LiveMesh and to choose to never sync a folder or folders in that Live Mesh with that device.
So, if you sign out of the client with one LiveID and back in with another LiveID to view the other devices or log into the Live Desktop to view other devices you can connect to the other devices assuming Live Mesh is running on the other devices and they are online.
And you can avoid the synchronization of folders on the PC you have made a member of both Live Mesh rings.
Note that I have not done this, so you may want to wait for someone else to confirm, search the forum for the other threads, or just try it out. You can always remove the PC from the second Mesh via the Live Desktop on the web if something doesn't work out the way you expected.

Hi,
Quoting is a little wonky, apologies:
* I'd like to synch my device to more than one mesh. Is that already supported?
You could install Live Mesh under a different local user account (and leave that account running for full sync, or not if you just wanted remote desktop), this would allow it to sync to a different mesh. Haven't tried the dual remote desktop though...
* I'd also like to have the various roles (such as "read-only synch") that have been mentioned elsewhere, for BOTH particular Live-ID's and for particular devices.
This is just a function of what you share with that mesh - the only way I can really think of this working is to have a master mesh account which shares folders with two "child" mesh accounts, but only allowing them "Reader" access. You then sync the mesh device with these two. Somewhat convoluted! Probably best to suggest such things on the Suggestion Sticky.
* Can the Mesh Notifier be used in more than one Windows User-Account: with both per-machine and per-user settings (like which folders are synched where, and who can remote-control other devices).
This is one is unclear to me - do you mean at the same time? Or do you mean the one notifier spanning multiple meshes? If you are talking about multiple users at the same time (say, via "fast user switching") then that is possible, if you are talking about one instance of Live Mesh spanning multiple accounts, then no, that is currently not possible.
Hope that helps,
Oren

I haven't given this a try yet but that makes sense. I don't really want my computer showing up as a potential remote desktop host on another mesh network but I suppose I can use the live desktop to remove it as you described. I'm not sure what happens if I log in from my mesh client without actually adding the device to the mesh. Is it added automatically?
What I had forgotten is that you can remote connect to a machine using IE from the live desktop so I don't actually need to log in with my mesh client as a different Live ID, I can just log into the live desktop with a different Live ID and use that to connect to a computer on that network.
Unfortunately, this crashes IE8 in Windows 7 every time...

Not quite answered completely yet...
* Yes as you said: Use IE as a remote-client by logging into www.mesh.com This doesn't require joining your computer as another device in that mesh ring.
...but these "GUEST features" are still unclear to me:
* I'd like to synch my device to more than one mesh. Is that already supported?
* I'd also like to have the various roles (such as "read-only synch") that have been mentioned elsewhere, for BOTH particular Live-ID's and for particular devices.
* Can the Mesh Notifier be used in more than one Windows User-Account: with both per-machine and per-user settings (like which folders are synched where, and who can remote-control other devices).
Seems like there needs to be a whole grid of permissions, by mesh-account, by device, and by user-account on each device.
