  • Question

  • Why takes backup so long ? Have a USB HDD proces is very slow on several machines (XP/Vista) and takes almost whole day to get it done

Is there an option to speed it up ?

  • As part of backup migration from 1.6 to 2.0, there is new category of files introduced in backup plan, which is Others category. Others category includes files with extension other than exe, dll, com etc and this category of files is included by default in backup plan after migration. That is why after upgrade you are seeing 30GB of data to be backed up. You can review you backup plan using backup configuration in onecare settings. You can exclude Other categories or browse through all the files in your backup plan and choose the files/folders you want to backup. This should reduce you backup size.

OneCare 2.0 does not backup whole machine, it only backs up data files and all files with non-standard extension.

  • Is this the first backup or a subsequent backup? How large is your hard disk? How long does it take to identify the files needing to be backed up? Is it possible that you are using a USB 1.1 port or going through an unpowered hub to your external USB drive?

  • Hi Steve,

This was the first with LOC 2 but HDD did contain an earlier backup with LOC 1.6. Identification of files was pretty quick, several minutes but writing was very slow mostly whole day with both XP as Vista machines and backup was very large more than 30 GB. Tried my USB HDD both with direct connection on PC USB 20 and powered USB20 usb server but no difference.

Looks like LOC 20 backsup my whole machine and not only the personal files as in LOC16.

Would be more comfortable if the feature from 16 would be available in 20 again to decrease the size and time of backing up.

    kind regards
