I have a few applications that I need to run all the time. Can I run them on WHS? Also, can I run a Virtual PC VM on WHS? -- if either is YES, it will allow me to save energy and power off one of my desktops.
Hi, technically both would be possible, as long as you don't have write something directly to disk locations belonging to the WHS storage pool and the applications not badly interact with Windows Home Server components. So I would recommend to use a disk outside of the storage pool for storing application data, virtual disks and such stuff.
But you also should be aware, that the WHS usage as desktop replacement or as host for a virtual machine is not part of the server functionality, is not supported and may violate the EULA. Also each update of Windows, WHS components or applications may break something, which did work initially.
