I purchased a Windows 7 Ultimate Key after learning my copy of windows was not genuine. However the key does not work, and seemingly cannot be changed RRS feed

  • Question

  • After running windows updates I received a message indicating that my copy of windows was not genuine.  This is on a pc I purchased from a friend of a friend (figures)

Anyway - I clicked through the "Get Genuine" and purchased the license for my installation, I received the key in my email.  I attempted to apply the key but received another message linking me to "Get Genuine" again asking me to pay for the key.  I attempted to run the "Change Product Key" from the system properties screen but again I get the same exact message, linking me to the "Get Genuine" website to purchase the key.

Do I need to wait for the install to arrive by mail?

  • Hit the Windows+R hotkeys to open the Run box and run the following command:

    slui.exe 3

This command will open the Dialog Box in which you can manually enter your product key.
