I want to calculate the size of the record RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

I want to calculate the size of the record.

If I know  the size of data needs to be handled by the server, I can
     1.configure the server
2.calculate the time taken for downloading or uploading
(as I know internet bandwith:5 Mb Down and 1 Mb Up)

    More details:

    Requirement :Offline Application.

The users would be doing some operations in an offline mode(without internet connection through laptop)and data stored in sql server express.

UP SYNC Synchronization:Using Microsoft Sync Framework, the data from laptop is uploaded into sql server 2005 Enterprise edition in online mode(with internet connection).

DOWN SYNC Synchronization:From server the data is transferred to client in online mode(with internet connection).

As number of concurrent users(MIN:4 and MAX:8) can do UP SYNC or DOWN SYNC operation,we need to calculate the size of record and size of data to be uploaded or downloaded,to or from server.

If know we the size of data needs to be handled by the server, I can
     1.configure the server
2.calculate the time taken for downloading or uploading
(as I know internet bandwith:5 Mb Down and 1 Mb Up)
    Thanks, Bharathi

  • We calculate row size internally using the following steps:

    ·      Aggregate sizes of primitive types

    ·      Pass in a null buffer to obtain the size of variable strings, binary and blob

I am not sure if there is a means by which to leverage DataSet to retrieve row size.  You might want to ping the ADO.NET forums for questions on DataSet.

    Hope this helps,
