As far as I can see, the only problem is that you haven't activated the COA Key by phone -
    Activate by phone

    1. Type "slui 4" in the start menu search box, hit enter

    2. Select country or region

    3. Dial the number, DO NOT select any menu options, just wait and a person will pick up.

    4. they will assist your activation.

Sorry for not including this information.  I shouldn't have to activate by phone as my copy of Vista was previously activated.  I purchased this computer in May 2009.  It has never given me problems before now.

When you input the COA Key, that created a new activation - and the COA Key must be telephone-activated.

Did not work.  Called the toll free number and input the generated and the system told me that the number was not valid.  The telephone system tried to connect me to an agent, I received a double ring (British Telecom, perhaps) and got an automated message denoting that I had tried to connect in error.

Try again - this time, when asked which service you require, do NOT respond. this should force an operator to pick up.
