Address Lookup Searching RRS feed

  • Question

  • Our client has Account records that contain between 50-100 addresses. When they are entering an Order/Invoice for one these Accounts, and are entering a BillTo or ShipTo address, they would like to be able to search by multiple fields in this entity. Currently, the default Customer Address Lookup View contains the following fields:

    1) Address Name
    2) ZIP
    3) City
    4) Street 1

For some reason, the search results in the Lookup only look at the Address Name field and not any of the other fields.  This means they can't search by certain Cities or Streets.

How can we extend CRM to search on these other fields?

  • The interesting thing is Microsoft's own documentation seems to indicate that this should work - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics/crm-customer-center/how-inline-lookup-works.aspx

The important test from that link states - Microsoft Dynamics CRM looks for matching records by searching for the keyword in columns defined in the quick find view of the entity or in the view that's set as the default view of the entity. Lookup search results show the first three columns that are defined in the lookup view of the entity or the view that's set as the default view of that lookup, including the primary field of that entity.

Is there something strange happening with the search on the Address Lookup then?

  • My initial search queries must have been lacking as I've finally found how this is controlled in CRM.  Namely, CRM uses Find Fields on the related Quick Find View.

Here is the article that explained this - https://community.dynamics.com/crm/b/crminogic/archive/2012/07/19/lookup_2d00_multiple_2d00_field_2d00_search
