automatic update of shared folders? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have created a shared folder with key files (Word, Excel, etc.) from one of my PCs.  Is there a way for these files to be updated on WHS server automatically?  I need to access these files from a different PC.

  • Edit the files that are stored on your server. That way everyone is using the same files.

  • Thanks, Ken.  That's certainly an alternative.  I was hoping for a neat Add-In tool or other option for an automatic update!  Appreciate it.

  • In general, my family works locally on documents, then puts them on the server when we're done. But we don't share the documents from PC to PC much. If you share them among multiple computers, storing the working copy on the server is the only way to go. You could use some third party folder synchronization tool on your desktop computers, but there's nothing I'm aware of that will install as an add-in and drive the process from the server in a satisfactory way.

  • Thanks for your input, Ken.  I work a little differently so I will pursue a 3rd party app to sync the files.  Appreciate it.
