Cannot activate xp professional

Question
-
I am unable to activate my copy of Windows xp professional. Nothing seems to indicate that this copy is counterfeit, but no activation key is working. Also, the copy came with the COA missing. Do you think that the copy is counterfiet or is installed on another computer? If so what should I do? I just looked for the key in the registry. According to the support article, the should be something there called "Productkey" I found nothing called that, but I did find something called "ProductId". However, the "ProductId" does not have the right amount of characters to fit into the activation wizard.
This might also help...

Hello s teddy,
You wrote, "Also, the copy came with the COA missing."
You have an installation CD for Windows XP Pro. But, without a Certificate of Authenticity (CoA), you do not have a license to run Windows XP Pro.
Your best bet is to contact Microsoft Customer Service to see if they can do anything for you: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811224

Hello s teddy,
Have you tried Activating by Phone? If not, try that.
Once you call the Activation center number, you will hear a Phone Prompt, either select the option to talk to a Live Activation Rep or if there is not option, don't enter anything into the phone, this should force the Phone Prompt to tansfer you to the Live Rep.
Thank you,
