Bad Product Key

Question
-
Someone in another thread told me to repost in my own thread. Below is the quote of my post
"Well I am running into the same issue here. Windows Pro 7 OEM. Unfortuneatly it's New Years and I'm stuck with a bunch of new hardware and every support number is "after hours" (even Microsoft which kind of boggles my mind) I hope to hear some sort of immediate news as I only have 15 days to test the processor/Motherboard and memory a RMA I fear will be too slow."
Info: I purchased the disk from newegg.com the package was shrink-wrapped and both ends were sealed with the big red security stickers. No tampering was evident. Windows 7 professional 64-bit
Hardware is completely brand new and freshly assembled.
went through the auto boot and setup the install. Ran the install, it rebooted my machine and had me put in some network details upon continuing it asks for a product key. I type in the "Product Key" as listed on the back of the dvd case (as printed on the Certificate of Authenticity) obviously it had the correct 25 character format and hit continue. A little popup window tells me it's an invalid key. I double check and even re-typed it. i've sinced rebooted and retried to the same effect.
In the previous thread there was an indication to download some form of diagnostic. The link gets me downloading the diagnostic tool. However there is no indication as to how I'm suppose to run the thing. I'm not even to the point of getting to a desktop or even a commandline. Everytime I reboot I'm placed right back to the "setup computer name" followed by the "put in product key"
I've got calls/emails into newegg support but the clock is ticking on my hardware's returnablity (if i find it faulty) anyone with a solution would be much appreciated.

I will give that a try tonight and provide run log detail. Will the install need a "valid" key at some point though? Or do you think that there's a flaw with my installation that is stopping my key from being valid?
More info to come. Thanks!
Windows 7 allows the user to install without a product key and Windows will use it's own keyless install key. The keyless install key acts like a Trial key and allows you to use windows for 30 days before requiring a valid product key be entered.Once you have Windows installed using the default keyless install key, you can change to the Valid product key by clicking the Start button, right-click Computer and select Properties. In the Window that comes up, click the Change Product key button at the bottom of the window. Hopefully this will resolve the issue, but if not, run the Diagnostic Report and post it and we'll see what we can do.
Hope that helps,

YOU were also asked to provide a copy of your MGADiag report - I can't see it?To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.

Yes Noel, if you read in my reply (see second to last paragraph), I would *happily* give you a MGADiag report if you can tell me how to run the darn thing. If you read above, i'm at a point where I'm being asked for a product key. Can't get to a desktop, can't break out to a shell, can't break out to click on (let alone download, but lets just pretend I had a USBkey) to go anywhere to run MGADiag.exe or click on said MGADiag.exe.Tuesday, January 4, 2011 10:57 PM

Noel Paton | Nil Carborundum Illegitemi | CrashFixPC | The Three-toed SlothAh, sorry! This is unusual for Win 7
You should be able to continue without entering any product key at all - Windows will complete the install using the Default Key.Once complete, download and run the tool.and/or try changing the product key to your own from the System Properties panel.

It could be either - but until we see a report it's almost impossible to tell.
