KeyUpdate tool and Windows XP SP3 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I need to change key on PC with windows xp sp3 installed but key update tool dont work. It stops with with error message 'Disk write error' 'Low on disk space' 0x800402c9. Is there any other way to reactivate it? In SP2 you could just edit some registry key so it promt you to activate it on next login but this method doesnt work in SP3 too.

  • BakaNyaka,

Here is the Windows XP KeyUpdateTool download page:

    http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/selfhelp/XPPkuinst.aspx

It has been verified that this error code produces the 0x800402c9 error and there is a fix for this.

Please run the updated XP product key tool and let me know if you have any more issues.

    Thank you,

  • BakaNyaka,

In order to recieve the best support, we request all users initially run the Genuine Diagnostics tool to try and identify the issue you may be having.

Download and run the utility at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 , then click the Windows tab, Copy to Clipboard, then paste the report into a response message in this thread.

Step 2 is tell us about the Certificate of Authenticity (COA). Tell us:
    1. What edition of Windows XP is it for, Home, Pro, or Media Center?
    2. Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?
    3. Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?
    4. DO NOT post the Product Key.

Your diagnostic results may seem lengthy but we will need you to post all of it on this thread to further assist you.

    Thank you,
