CRM Outlook Client Customizability

Question
-
Hello,
We are using CRM 4.0 Rollup 5. Our users are unhappy with how the CRM for Outlook plug-in is handling scheduled Appointments and Tasks created in CRM.
When a scheduled Appointment or Task is set in CRM for, say 11:00 AM, an Outlook reminder will appear that the task is due in 6 hours, or 5:00 PM in this example.
1. Where is this time coming from? We are US EST (-5:00 GMT) w/DST, and the system time on the servers are correct, so I'm not sure how the time is coming into Outlook this way.
2. Is it possible to set the reminder to appear 15 minutes before the appointment anywhere in CRM as you can in Outlook?
3. Is there any customization possible with the Outlook plug-in, or is it WYSIWYG?
Thank you.Friday, February 12, 2010 9:45 PM

1.All the times in UTC format are stored in Organization Database. Dynamics CRM support different time zones and it's checking outlook settings regarding time zone. All the datetime fields are calculated by server-time +- outlook client time settings.

2.Reminders are still not available in Dynamics CRM. Microsoft suggestion is to first set reminder in Outlook and later promote appointment to MS CRM. Check this article: http://www.microsoft.com/dynamics/crm/using/sales/sharedreminders.mspx
3.You can create a custom application which can work also in CRM outlook client (online and offline) .

In addition to what kgorczewski writes, have the users check their CRM options to ensure the user's time zone is set correctly, CRM, Tools, Options....
