combined two folders in one share name.

I have common files organized into two separate folders that I want to share across my network as a single network share. Is this possible?I organize my media center recordings in three folders as follows:TV, NewTV, waiting backupTV, archiveAs I record programs they go into the first folder.Once watched I move them to the second folder where they stay until I burn them to disc. Then they are moved to the third folder.I only use file duplication on the first two folders as the disc copy serves as a backup for the third folder. When I view the folders on my media player I would like to see two sharesTV, New (so I can quickly get to my new stuff)TV, Old (which would be both the second & third folder above). These shares would be purely read only, so I don't have any concerns about writing. Is this possible?Thursday, December 4, 2008 4:41 PM

The media streaming features of Windows Home Server are locked down to the three default media shares, so additional shares would not participate. However, if you're not using the streaming capabilities (your media players are looking directly at shares) you could certainly create shares as you suggest. What you can't do, however, is configure duplication at a level lower than the entire share. So if you want duplication for anything in the "old" share, you will have duplication turned on for everything in that share.

First, I'm not using the Media Sharing feature of WHS. My players reads directly from a share. It sounds like you're saying I can do what I want to do. So, how do I create a single share called "TV, Old" that combines two folders?
thanks in advance.Thursday, December 4, 2008 6:09 PM -
You create a share. Then you create a couple of folders in that share. Then you put files in those folders.A share on WHS is just like a share on any other Windows computer, as far as the client device is concerned. The differences are handled entirely on the server.

Ken, I guess I'm not being clear enough. I don't just want multiple folders under a share.
Let me be more explicit.
here are my folders & files:
TV, New
Series one
episode 4.avi
TV, Waiting to burn
Series one
season 3
episode 2.avi
episode 3.avi
TV, archive
Series one
season 1
episode 1.avi
episode 2.avi
episode 3.avi
season 2
episode 1.avi
episode 2.avi
episode 3.avi
season 3
episode 1.avi
So, I have three seasons of a show.
One episode is new
part of season 3 have been watched but not backed up to disc yet
all of season 1 & 2 have been backed up as well as part of season 3.
I want a single SHARE that will look like this on my media player:
TV, Old
Series one
season 1
episode 1.avi
episode 2.avi
episode 3.avi
season 2
episode 1.avi
episode 2.avi
episode 3.avi
season 3
episode 1.avi
episode 2.avi
episode 3.avi
My physical organization supports my archiving process (ie, burning to disc). But, when I'm watching programs I don't want to have to hunt around to find specific episodes "hmm, have I backed that up yet?".
So, can I create a single SHARE called "TV, Old" that points to BOTH folder?
thanks again.

You cannot do what you want, at least not in the way you want to do it (creating a virtual folder and merging the contents of two physical folders). Only what I described. My suggestion would be to keep the workflow off the server. Move a copy of every file to the server immediately for playback, but put them all in a single location.
