Using Enterprise Resources

Question
-
Hi,
Normally when we add Users as enterprise resources in the project server. Project manager would be able to add the users in project plan after which the user would be able to access PWA to enter time.
My question is does microsoft project server 2007 has an option where I want to add the user as Enterprise resource but not let the resource log into pwa and enter efforts.Idea is to have resources as enterprise resources in Project plan. Do we have any option in Project server to do this. Please advise
Thanks

Hi Max_Pin,
Yes you can do this; you can create enterprise resource, which you can use in the project plan and the resource will not able to login to PWA to log effort. That you can do from Resource Center:
1. Go to PWA, Resource Center
2. New Resource
3. Select type as Work
4. Under the Identification Inoformation bloc, uncheck the option "Resource can logon to Project Server"
rest of the information is simple to be filled.
hope this helps.

Hi There,
I do not think there is an option for your exact requirement. But why not just add a resource ? (If you open a resource from the resource Center there is a tickbox that says "User can log in"" or something similar. If that is unticked the user wont be able to sign in. )BY making a resource a user They can log into the system. By Making them just a resource they cant. Another option you might explore is to create a new Group and Security template and add only the Resources you dont want to give permissions to log in. By dis-allowing them the rights to log in.
Hope this helps a bit

hi Max,
I think you got confused:
In Project Server 2010 There is two things important about Resource:
User:
- is the one who can log in to the PWA Site,
- User may or may not be resource
- if user is only user it cant be assigned any task.
Resource:
- is the one who cannot login to PWA
- resouce may be or may not user
- a resource who can be assigned task.
The same senario is present in Project Server 2007
For adding a resource (not user)
Go to resource center->New Resource->remove the Check for Resouce can log on site-> as soon as u remove the check it wont ask for windows login and permission->save->new resource is created.
hope this help!!
