Restrict the user's posting ability!

Question

Hi,
At the moment, users can enter what ever the heck they want with the power of raw HTML and CSS. Behold:
This is some annoyingly large text.
I really would not like for people to be allowed to do this.
My suggestion is two-fold:- Disallow raw HTML to be used. Instead provide some restricted BB code, for basic formatting that people actually *need*.
- Restrict the font sizes that can be used. We only need 3 or 4 or so sizes. A small, medium, large, and perhaps extra large. Simple for the user, and less prone to abuse.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, we discussed this type of restriction in an earlier thread about why we should use BB codes. I think this is something that we'll see how it's used and make it a priority if it seems users need restricting.

GOOD GOSH!
NEXT YOU WILL WANT TO OUTLAW ALL CAPS TOO!
Actually, I agree with you.

Well, outlawing all caps is lower on my list of wishes -- all caps at a reasonably sized font isn't as annoying as a huge font, and restricting the font is a lot easier to implement than scanning people's text and checking to see for CAPS abuse.Thursday, April 10, 2008 4:32 AM

this is a great idea and one that was suggested but rejected at the time. I'm sure if there is enough demand then this type of functionality could be added. I would add one thing though and that be that the Forum Admin. can decide if they wish to restrict the user's posting options or not.
