Microsoft Fix it Centre says that my DVD writer can't write RRS feed

    Ran Microsoft Fix it Centre to test DVD writer.  I have a DVD loaded. It correctly tells me the make of the device & then tells me

    'The selected device is not capable of writing'. 

    Yet I've installed Nero Burning ROM 11.2.10300.0.0 & can write to DVD + and - RW.  Why is the Fix it center giving me this message?

    I'm using windows XP SP3.  The DVD writer is SONY     DVD+-RW DW-D56A.   Recently upgraded firmware to PDS7.  Ran Beta version Microsoft Fix it Centre yet again.  Same error.

    Yet I can use Nero to write a DVD.

    You say you have a DVD loaded, is it blank. My guess is that Fix It is confused & going by the disc and not the player itself. Have you tried rescaning it with a blank disc or when there is no disc in the player. Fix It is in Beta at the moment and this is why they let the public use it. To save them $ by haveing the public find the errors for free hahaha. Anyway good luck!
