CRM 4.0 installation question - 2 different CRM installs share same MSCRM_CONFIG db ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have OrgA installed on WinOS 2008 utilizing SQLServer - MSCRM_CONFIG and OrgA_MSCRM

I want to install CRM 4.0 again on different WinOS 2008, for OrgB, and have it utilize the same SQLServer - the same MSCRM_CONFIG and also OrgB_MSCRM.

Is it possible?  I think if I try via the MS Dynamics CRM 4.0 installation wizard, it'll give the error / redX "MSCRM_CONFIG already exists in this database"    Can it be done via the command-line scripting of CRM 4.0 installation?  If so, what do I need to specify in CRMSetup XML config file?

  • No, it would not be supported to have more than one app server use the same MSCRM_CONFIG database.  You will have to use a different instance of SQL Server.

  • Hi Brian,

You can use same MSCRM_CONFIG but not OrgA_MSCRM.

You can create new organization(Install CRM Application on different server) using the existing database, but you cannot use the existing Organization for new installation.

  • Jamie is correct in his approach. On the same SQL Server create a separate instance called CRMB or something along those lines and during the installation of CRM on server B, point your SQL server to SQLSERVER\CRMB.

    That will solve your problem.
