Laptop XP two disks one install RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi. I have a Dell Inspiron 9200 laptop with an 80gb hard drive. It came with XP installed and the usual Dell OEM XP disk. I'd like to purchase a larger disk drive, with the intention of installing XP on it together with numerous games. I'd also use it as my primary writing base. I'd want to keep the 80gb disk, put XP on it as well, then dual-boot the 80gb disk with Linux. I'd use that disk to access the internet, with an occasional writing chore and other things that I'd want to do in XP.

What I don't know is if I can do that legally and hassle-free. Have the Dell OEM XP install on both disks and swap them in and out according to my whims of the moment. To summerize: I'd want to install XP on both disks. Note that only one (obviously) would be running at any one time. Is this OK? Thanks.

  • You can only install one (1) copy of Windows XP on one (1) hard drive.  If you wish to install Windows XP on a second drive, you'll need to purchase a second Windows XP license.
