PLEASE EHLP...NO Icons, No task bar, nothing!! only blank desktop

    Question

  • I have checked many different chat and message boards with everyone saying they have not found a cure yet!!!!!

When I boot the computer, it brings me to user profile page that displays correctly. When I chose a profile loads and the screen is blank other than the desktop wallpaper. No Task bar, start button, icons, nothing but wallpaper. The only way to access the system is through control-alt-delete and choose "new task". From new task I can access all programs, even can choose desktop and it shows the desktop icons that you can open.

    Does anyone have a cure??????????????????

I appreciate any help or understanding of how to cure this.

    Thank you

    My dear friend,

    1. Right-click the desktop, and then click Properties.
    2. On the Desktop tab, click Customize Desktop.
    3. Under Desktop icons, click to select the check boxes of the icons you want to view.
    4. Click OK two times.

  • I am also having same problem for last couple of weeks.  This seems to be common problem since there are few posts but no common solutions.

I tried following things but no luck:

    1. Right click does not work.

    2. Pressing Clt + Alt + Del opens up task manager and can start some new task but not all.
    3. Tried running msconfig.exe to restore the system but couldn't. Got this message "system restore is not able to protect your computer. please restart your computer, and then run system restore again. "
    4. Have one instance of explorer.exe process is running but could not start another instance.
    5. Even tried running "xp_taskbar_desktop_fixall.vbs", it started but didn't run.
    6. starting in safe mode does not help either. It justs opens with black background.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you !!!!

  • I have the same problem and it has paralyzed my computer:

    1. Right click does not work.

    2. Ctrl+Alt+Del does not open task manager.  I get an error message "Task manager has been disabled by your administrator."  I suspect the task manager issue is a spyware problem??

    3. Cannot get computer to start in safe mode.

    Any suggestions?

    2. Log on to the computer by using a user account that has administrative permissions.
    3. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
    4. In the left pane, click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
    5. In the right pane, double-click DisableTaskMgr.
    6. In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.

  • I just encountered this problem today. My windows XP was working just fine yesterday. But today logged in and found a blank desktop. There is totally nothing on it. Not even the start button exists on the screen.

What else can I click? Help.....My data is still there. I can go to the task manager to add new tasks, but I can't access all my stuff. ARggggh!

  • This happened to me after while I was at my cottage and was quite frustrating. However mine was a quick fix, i'm not sure if it will be the same for you. My computer set itself up as a secondary screen so it had both the main desktop and an extended desktop that would normally be hooked up to a secondary monitor or tv. My monitor had a way to switch between the two and I was able to make the adjustments to the display so it didn't happen again. I'm not sure if it's the same problem but I figured any solution would be better the nothing.

  • Normally this problem of disappearing of desktop icons caused by the virus called called F-Nimda which creates a file named bxomebc.exe which aborts the windows explorer from starting. But this problem could be due to the corrupted registry also.

Firstly before following any of the methods given below download the F-Nimda virus removal tool.

    Method 1:

    1. Start Windows XP, after starting press Ctrl+Shift+Esc or Ctrl+Alt+Del to launch task manager.
    2. Click File menu and select “New Tasks (run…)”
    3. Now type CMD and click OK, this will open the Command Prompt.

    4. Type following command on command prompt:

    Reg add “HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RpcSs” /v ObjectName /t REG_SZ /d LocalSystem and press enter.

Note: You can also try downloading this registry entry in order to re-enable the showing of your desktop icons. Download from here, double click and press OK button to merge it in registry.

    Method 2:

Start Windows XP, after starting press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to launch task manager.
    2. Click File menu and select “New Tasks (run…)”
    3. Now type CMD and click OK,this will open command prompt.

    4. Type cd %SystemRoot% and press enter.

    5. Now rename the file Shdocvw.dll file by typing ren shdocvw.dll shdocvw.old and press enter.

    6. Restart windows.

    Method 3:

    1. Download this shell fix registry settings from here , merge it into the registry by double clicking the downloaded file and press OK.

    2. Download process explorer from here and run it.

    3. Locate a process called bxomebc.exe in process explorer, end this process and delete the file from its location (You will get to know the file path by taking mouse over the process).

    4. Restart your computer.

We hope at least one of fixes provided above will help you fix the trouble.
