Counterfeit Windows 7 won't accept valid product id key RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello, I (unknowingly) purchased five counterfeit Windows 7 product id keys last year. Three of the installs are now reporting they are not valid Windows licenses. I've purchased new media and product id keys from New Egg. One of the installs is now reporting a valid license, but a second won't accept the new product id key. Here's the result of the Genuine Advantage Diagnostic tool:

I'm hoping to avoid having to do a clean install. Does anyone know how I can get this valid key accepted by the current OS installation?

  • Your Key appears to have been blocked by the MS servers - if so a reinstall will not help.

You should contact the MS Activation Center in your area and discuss the problem with them.

Here's a list of their phone numbers.

  • I solved the problem:

I copied the file legitcheckl.hta from another pc to the one which wouldn't activate, and ran it. Within a few seconds it indicated validation was complete, and the product key now matches the COA on the media I purchased from New Egg.

The legitcheckl.hta file is downloaded during the browser-based validation sequence, and was saved to the Downloads folder on the other pc. That browser-based validation sequence wouldn't run on the problem pc due to a file association error.

Thanks to those who posted replies.

  • Please post a new MGADiag report - something doesn't sound right here!
