Compressed Backup RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • While I understood the need for compressed or cataloged backups 5 years ago - the size of hard drives and such today just excludes the need to do this. I want to get to my back up data immediately just like the original data without having to install a program to extract that data.

Norton 360 does just that. You get an exact copy that you can simply click through your folders and select the file you want on the actual backup without having 360 installed.

I do tech support for a living and most people have no clue how to get the data out of compressed/catalog backups. And once you show them they find it a complete hassle.

    Just my two cents.

  • Thanks for your comments - not just 2 cents worth, either. :-) You make a very good point. The original design of the OneCare backup is to use CD/DVD, which is why a compressed backup and catalog makes sense.
