purchased an upgrade copy of Vista at a retail store RRS feed

  • Question

  • I purchased an upgrade copy of Vista at a retail store, installed it, then later changed my motherboard.  I get the same problem as the original poster of this thread.  I agree with him that something as common as swapping hardware should not invalidate licenses.  Without having statistics I'm confident presuming that legitimate hardware swaps are just as common, if not more common, than acts of piracy.

I've seen at least one other non-Microsoft product that tries to get clever with licenses like this.  All it takes is a zap of current to turn a pleased legitimate customer into a displeased critic of the product's creators and sellers.
