whsbackup.exe reporting problems at RDP login RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm getting popup errors related to whsbackup whenever I connect by RDP. I don't do that often but must, occasionally.

I think this started when I installed BDBB, but never ran it. I was stopped by not being able to establish a wired network connection to a share large enough to back up my WHS backup to.

Example errors are posted below. Short of rebuild, does anyone have any suggestions? Rebuild isn't out of the question. I just have to copy some data off to another drive. This version of WHS is sort of a trial run for me, anyway. Once I figure out what I want to do with it, and have the money, I'll build one with new hardware.

  • Please try uninstalling the Add-in first. I've never heard of this problem in relation to this Add-in, however if the appearance of the errors coincide with the installation of the Add-in this is worth a try. Did you (try to )enable duplication of the backup db from the Add-in? If you think the bug is related to the Add-in best report overhere

Are your clients backing up normally? If yes please logon to the the homeserver desktop, then open the WHS console, Settings menu, Backup and run backup cleanup. If this finishes within a short period (minutes) there's probably an issue with you backup database. If so Please try the Repair database. Also if one or more client backups fail you could try this. Please note, if repair finds problems it can't fix it may delete the backup database alltogether.

If the backup fails consistently for one client please try running chkdsk /r on all partitions of the client that are selected for backup.

  • I see the message only when connecting by RDP. I get one popup error alert per day since last connection.

I don't recall having attempted enabling duplication, as I don't have another drive large enough to do that. I did already uninstall BDBB through the standard means, within WHS settings.

In the WHS console, backup seems to be working normally. That is, except that it skips days when I connect by RDP. E.g., I show successful backup on 10/2-10/9, but skipped 10/8. That's when I last logged in. Also, my backups occur in mid-morning. I suspect the backup completed succesfully by the error a login somehow corrupted the record of having done so?

Backup cleanup took about 20 minutes. I didn't jump through any point in the process.

Scanning the event viewer and sorting by type, I find many errors related to whsbackup that predate my installation of BDBB. I think I need to start over.
