Upgrading to CRM 2011- Advice needed RRS feed

  • I am looking for advice in what the best approach would be to upgrading an existing [on-premise] CRM 4 deployment to 2011. This is only required for demo purposes so i'd be keen to know which components are compulsory to get a 2011 environment up and running [not sure i'd require email/Reporting]. Also what the disadvantages of doing this in a virtual environment would be.

    One of my considerations is that i don't want existing data to be brought across to 2011 though require the existing functionality/customisations - what would be the best way to do this?

    My top level plan would be:

    • Create new environment [physical/virtual?]
    • Take back ups from current CRM4 environment
    • Import organisation into 2011 environment

    I guess i'm looking to find out if this is indeed the best way to do it and how i can go about not including the current data.
