Install HPC Pack 2012 R2 on a non OS drive

    Question

  • Hi,

I'd like to limit stuff installed on my OS drive (C:\). Is there a way I can install HPC Pack update 3 on a different drive (like D:\ )?

Or should it be part of OS drive always?

    Thanks

  • I think you can install on D drive as long as you do a full new install.

The full package is available here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=49922

  • Please confirm the same - Do not want to re-image the whole OS if it does not work that way.

  • You can select the installation location for a fresh installation, but cannot change the installation location for a update.

So if you do a full new installation, you can choose to install on any drive you prefer to in the setup wizard, but if you have already installed HPC Pack 2012 R2 Update 2 on system drive, and just want to update to Update 3, then there is no way to change the installation location.
