  • Could someone please tell me how to add a fourth computer to Live Update? Am I stuck paying the $50 to add one more?

  • Unfortunately, to remain within the terms of you license, you would need to purchase another subscription and activate that with a different LiveID at this time. There is no facility to add a license to an existing 3 PC subscription. One LiveID can only have a single subscription and each subscription is for up to 3 PCs for 12 months.

  • Thanks, Steve. I was afraid that was the case. However, I'm not all that upset by it. I'll use one for here and one for my laptop at work, still leaving me one PC left. I've an old unit that I use once in a while, I can always throw the third on there.

BTW, I've noted quite a bit of complaining in the blogs about OneCare. For the record: I love it. It's much less obtrusive that Norton or Macafee, and hides well while working it's magic. Since owning it, I haven't had a single problem with any of our three units at all. We're pretty big gamers and are often on the 'net. I'll take OneCare's protection over anything out there. When you consider the cost and they way it runs, you can't beat it!

    Thanks again for the help!

  • You're welcome, Dane. You'll generally read many complaints in the forums as people come here when they are experiencing problems. :-)

    Thanks for the kind words.

This is ridiculous.  I have to create a separate account and pay $100 just to have a 4th computer?  A customer should be able to pay a fee to add additional PC's.  It's bad enough paying $50 for 3 PC's when many other companies are substantially cheaper and offer a nearly equivalent service, but when you're going to charge $100 for 4 PCs, and make it a management nightmare to do so, that's enough to make someone shop around for another product. I like Live OneCare, but I must say that I'll probably be cancelling my subscription before it automatically renews in the next few weeks.

  • I understand your complaint. Early in the 2.0 beta there was mention of forthcoming capability to purchase additional licenses for a subscription, but I don't know the status of this. Personally, since you like OneCare otherwise, I'd suggest looking for a retail discount for OneCare to get a reduced cost for renewal - you can use a retail key to renew - and put Avast or other free protection product on your 4th PC for now, unless you can find a very good OneCare retail deal and get another copy.

  • Steve,

I have your WLO installed on my desktop and my toshiba laptop.

Last week I bought a Levorna Laptop to replace the Toshiba and the first thing I did was to install the WLO to protect it.

Turns our within one day I found that the DVD did not have an onboard video card.

That made it the 3rd install for my service.

With in to days I reurned this laptop and bought my present laptop that is an HP 1410

The install asked if I wanted it to be the HUB PC and I told it NO and it tryied to install it as a fouth PC.

I cant tell if the install was completed as I stoped the process wanted to avoid a 2nd subscription charge until my other runs out in March 2008

I have the serial number for the laptop I returned if it will help.

Right now! I have just two P/C I want to run WLO on yet your service thinks I have four.

What Can I do to correct this issue? If I buy a new service plan can you add the remainding months I paid for the 2007 WLO service plan I have remaining?

    Many Thanks!

  • Simply install and activate on the new PC. Use the same LiveID as you used on the other two (well, three, counting the returned machine) PCs. If one PC is made a "'hub" after activation, you may see the returned PC listed. Simply expand the entry for that PC and select to remove it from your subscription.

Note that this last step is optional. Since you returned the other PC, you are within your license agreement to install on the new PC.

  • Homesick, I feel your pain. However, in your post you did mention three words that got my attention: "nearly equivalent service". That, to me, says quite a bit. You get what you pay for, my friend.

Personally, a hundred bucks is serious cash. I buy our units used/refurbished because I can't afford new. I scour Ebay, etc, for video cards, RAM and other stuff to keep us gaming at a decent level. Yeah, a hundred bucks isn't cheap, but when I consider what I could loose by not spending the extra money for that one subscription....ouch. So I'm fifty bucks a year into four units? With what I get for it and what it's protecting, I can bite that bullet.

However, I will agree that the bullet isn't tasty. Hopefully they'll come out with additional license agreements that will allow us four or five units at a pro-rated price. Like I said, not a tasty bullet right now. For what you get, though? I'm in for the ride.
