Microsoft CRM 4.0 database import to CRM 2011 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all -

I'm in the process of doing research for upgrading our MS Dynamics CRM 4.0 environment to MS CRM 2011.  I have read several articles, such as the following: http://msmvps.com/blogs/larrylentz/archive/2011/01/24/importing-crm-4-0-organization-into-crm-2011.aspx, stating that you can in fact import a MSCRM 4.0 database to a MSCRM 2011 environment using the Deployment Manager provided by the CRM installation.

My question is, is there a SQL Server database requirement to perform the importing of the MSCRM 4.0 database to CRM 2011?  As of right now, our MSCRM 4.0 database resides on SQL Server 2005 SP3 and I'm wondering if there would any issue with importing it to a SQL Server 2008 x64 instance, and using that database for MSCRM 2011.  Thanks.

  • There should be no issues with importing the database across SQL versions and processor architectures. If you backup the database, then restore it to the new SQL Server, then SQL Server should resolve any SQL issues. I think SQL will mark the database as using SQL 2005 Compatibility level, but that shouldn't impact the CRM import (and if it does, there will be no problem with changing the database compatibility level in SQL)
