automate unsubscribe or do not email function in mscrm 2011 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Has anyone automated the ability for a contact to unsubscribe from a campaign or further email messages in Crm 2011? My understanding is that out of the box this functionality is not present in CRM 2011.

  • Hi,

The 'Unsubscribe' feature is present in CRM2011 as it was in v4.0. When you create an email template, there is an 'Unsubscribe' button on the top right of the editor. This allows you to add an unsubscribe hyperlink within your email body (i.e. unsubscribe here ).

Also, within System settings > Marketing tab, there is a section named 'Set the auto-unsubscribe options'. Here, you may control the automatic setting of the 'Do Not Send Marketing Material' option and you may also define an email template which is automatically sent on receipt of the unsubscribe message.

  • Hi Ron,

It will set the flag  'Do Not Send Marketing Material' on the account / contact / lead if you have set it to do so in System Settings. It should work irrespective of the type of CRM client receiving it - be it Outlook or an email router configured user/queue.

Text as per the help file:

    >>>

When you enable your customers to unsubscribe, Microsoft Dynamics CRM inserts a link into each outgoing e-mail message. When the customer clicks the link, the e-mail application opens a new message with the unsubscribe information in the subject line. Next, when the customer sends the e-mail message and Microsoft Dynamics CRM receives it, Microsoft Dynamics CRM automatically sets an option in the account, contact, or lead record to prevent the person from receiving any future marketing communications from your organization.

  • Hi Ron,

It's the contacts in CRM that get matched against by either your Outlook or the email router (depending on the user/email address receiving the unsubscribe mail) not the contacts in your local Outlook file. The contact won't be deactivated on receipt of an unsubscribe mail, they will have their 'Do Not Send Marketing Material' radio-set set to false if so configured in your system settings.

  • Not sure why this is not working for me could it be because I removed all my contacts in outlook? So I am guessing it can’t find the contact to deactivate.

  • Hello,

Does anyone know or have a link to documentation covering the configuration required for this from the email account/user configuration for the MSCRM account sending  the marketing emails and receiving emails for this automated process to  work? I know when setting up a marketing campaign you can  specify the user from which the email is originating. On the screen where sender is defined it allows you to select a system user or contact record and I believe  a few other options. I cannot imagine if a contact is selected that the unsubscribe will work properly.
