Geography data type / Syncing dataviews RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is there any suport for syncing the SQL Server 2008 Geography datatype using the Microsoft Synchronization Services for ADO.NET v1?

Assuming the answer to the first question is no... I've seen a demonstration syncing spatial data from SQL Server 2008 to SQL Compact and back using SQL Server Replication. As SQL Compact does not support spatial datatypes they created a dataview on the server in which a geography column was exposed as two columns of type double containing the Latitude and Longitude, and then replicated this data view to the clients SQL Compact database.

Is it possible to sync data views using ADO.NET Sync Services?

Any examples or alternative workarounds would be greatly appreciated.

  • the Geo data is not directly supported. you can cast them to varbinary(max) to sync the data to the sqlce clients.

readonly only views should be supported as long as your queries on the syncadapter support that.
