CRM 2011 - Custom email field RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is it possible to automatically track emails using a custom email field on the Contact? We have created an Email Address4 field as a text field with a type of Email. Will the OL client evaluate this field for tracking?

    Thanks

  • unfortunately, reply is again no. There is no custom field that you could use.

    this is the approx picture.

    1. CRM allows automatic promoting of incoming and outgoing emails from a mailbox.

    2. If an email address in CRM, matches with email address in an incoming or outgoing email. The email address is resolved on email activity created in CRM into corresponding account or lead or contact or system user.

    3. If no matching email address is found in CRM, the email address will be presented as text in the email activity.

    4

based on incoming email address, to, from,CC,bcc fieldss are resolved in the email activity.

  • unfortunately no, email tracking is much more complex than that. You may send emails to multiple parties and would like to track email against all of them.

you could create a plugin to update your custom field when an email is created or updated.

Working with Jenks on this one, thanks for the reply Jithesh.

If we were to change the custom field from "text" to "email", would that make a difference? I know it obviously wouldn't be included with CRMs default 3 e-mails address, but would be be able to link then??

  • sorry, no. Email type only validates the string entered -like a regex function. To, from is a customer type lookup. You can't create a custom one. If you could explain your requirement, some one may be able to help.

We'd simply like to create a custom field that can store an email that can then be used to link emails to contact/accounts. Is that doable?

  • to field is used for this purpose. Even though you add a contact to this field, an email is sent to the email address stored in this contact.

This would only be for incoming emails and some of these incoming emails are from emails like no-reply@website.com. We dont have control over what they have in the to, from, CC, BCC fields. If we did, we wouldn't have this problem :)

So, my same question again, is there any custom field that would allow us to track emails off of it? I dont believe there is, but we want to make sure.
