BI Ladder - Career Path Help, what is a way forward RRS feed

  • Question

  • Good day,

I am considering doing a Business Analyst course but really unsure, I am a Senior BI Analyst with relevant IT diplomas, SQL 2005/2008 certification (10 years experience) but I am at a standstill in my career - I am mostly & currently bi developer/architect/dba on sql2012 (SSMS,SSIS,SSAS/Tabular,SSRS,MDS,QDS) / Cognos / Qlikview / TM1 / DB2 / 10% is gather requirements & technical specs / 20% training junior developers but where do I see myself say in 3 years time, still developing?

Do I do the business analyst course and start leaving the developing/technical to the juniors but it does not really interest me though the business side is what a lack in terms of user specs, providing solutions/ technical spec etc but this course is nearly 8 months part time and I probably only need 40% of course content as it is more for applications delivery.

Can I apply for Senior BI roles without a BA certificate as I have IT Diploma/SQL certificates etc

Do it to get it on my job profile for future references or what other paths are there in BI for me to climb the ladder?

I thought of self skilling myself on the BA area (I have a lot of technical background & continue to learn) but would I need this certificate for future career roles?

Can only think of BI/MIS technical lead but what is the best way forward in terms of being a real BI Specialist, please help?

What is a good way forward for me please?
