Can I delete the desktop folder after the synch?

Question
-
Hi, I'm very new to Mesh. I've found that after synch a blue folder is placed on the desktop. Can this folder be moved elsewhere and will it synch from the new location? If so, will it stay in the new location or must I phsically move it each time there is a synch?
BTW, can someone please point to a good tutorial site for learning and understanding Mesh.

Hi Deejay,Yes the sync point can be moved to some other location local on the PC. To change this, select "Manage Folders" from the folder button view in the Live Mesh client. The right click the folder you'd like to move and change the "Sync Settings" so it doesn't sync with the computer any more. The from the folder button view in the Live Mesh client, double click the folder you'd like to sync and browse to the location in the popup window. If the folder already exists it will prompt for permission to merge them.Hope this helps!!~TQ

I'm not aware of a nice tutorial for you, but what TQ has replied with is the answer - with a twist. The actual answer is that you can't move the folder after you've accepted it on the target machine. The option to change the location of the sync folder happens when it is first offered to the PC. If you click OK to accept the Sync on the Desktop, that's where the end point is and it can't be moved.
Here are the details:
Double clicking when it is faded light blue folder, brings you to a windows titled:
Synchronize folder
The text at the top of the window says "Synchronize folder with this computer."
The name cannot be changed/
The location is the path to your desktop folder.
Next to this is browse.
At the bottom of the Window is OK and Cancel.
OK accepts the default offered location - your desktop.
If you click OK, it will become a darker blue folder (still light blue) and it is now fixed to your desktop.
If you click Browse, you can navigate to a folder of your choosing.
Once you have reached that folder, click OK and accept the warning about merging with an existing folder and potential for conflicts.

Thank you for your replies. In the absence of a tutorial trial and error will have to do.
I take it that the path change is a one off and in future it'll know to go to the new location.
On synchronisation generally, must the files on the devices share the same path. For e.g. can I have C:\files on one device and c:\mydocuments\files on another? This is a program (OneNote) where you specify where to save in the options. So will that setting also be shared?

The settings will not be synchronized, but you can configure that at each machine. The end points for the sync location can be completely different on every machine - that is, a whole different path.
"I take it that the path change is a one off and in future it'll know to go to the new location."
I'm not sure that I got that... When you accept a sync end point for an offered Live Mesh folder, that is the end point for that machine. If you change the location when you are in the process of accepting the folder, that is the end point. All sync will proceed with the end point you configured. When you move the folder *after* you have accepted it and the folder becomes the darker blue icon for a Live Mesh folder, it can confuse Live Mesh and sync breaks.

OK I've figured it out and instead of setting a new path, which you can't, I deleted the dektop icon and shortly after there was a replacement which I could repoint.
I have now noticed that on the first computer I set up, which is main computer I have an additional blue folder called something like Mesh Live folder or something similar. This folder appears when you click on my computer in xp. I can't find it on my W7 mahcines. Can you please be so kind and explain the relevanceo f this
Thanks againFriday, February 19, 2010 12:25 AM -
The Live Mesh folder in Explorer on XP (and Vista, I think) is a Shell extension that basically collects all Live Mesh enabled folders into a filter. It is not an extra folder. It does not appear in Windows 7 due to a change in the architecture of Windows.
