Individual USER folders. RRS feed

  • Question

  • After installing WHS connector on 4 machines I have the same problem on them all. Anyone on any of the four machines can access the folder of any other user on any machine. Its like there is no securith between them. But, if you go the Server Console and look at the individual users it shows they do not have access to any other users folder but their own.

    Ideas?

    Thanks

  • No, If you use the same name & password, then the server cannot differentiate properly between Clients.

You will need to change all or part of each Client's log-in to be individual to that Client.

Thank you so much. With the way that WHS shows up the properties for each user one would assume that each is seperate no matter what.

Since Win XP does not allow one to change the log on name without causing a problem with user files I would assume that changing the password alone may solve my problem.

I will try that. Other wise WHS was a very easy setup to install and get going.

    Thanks again

Actually, you can change the logon name on XP by opening a Run box and typing control userpasswords2.  Once there, just change the logon name to match whatever logon name you have on the server.

  • Question:

    1. Have you enabled Guest account on WHS (The server, not client PC), if so, what's the access right of the Guese account?

    2. Do you use different log in ID for each client PC?

  • Well the Guest has only the default rights.

Now you may have a point. All my computers have the same log on name and password. I thought that by setting a different log on and password in WHS they would be seperate.
