PP3 RTM not showing up in Windows Update RRS feed

  • Question

  • Looks like they locked the PP3 Beta forum:

    Here's the other thread:

And yes, I have already uninstalled PP3 beta. I had to do it through the %systemroot% method. Unfortunantly, when trying to uninstall the Hotfix for Search Add/Remove said that the uninstall could not be found, it may have already been uninstalled, however there was no $uninstallkb for that kb#. PP3 is not showing up in Windows update.

  • PP3 beta forum: Microsoft did say they would be locking it soon. :)

You still have Power Pack 3 beta installed. Until that has been removed you will be unable to install the RTM code; that's why you don't see it in Windows Update. (Note: You should only install updates to Windows Home Server by setting your server to update automatically or by using the Update button in the console. There are updates that are presented as "optional" on Windows Update that should not be installed.)

If you still have the Power Pack 3 beta installer, you could:

    • install Windows Home Server in a virtual machine
    • then install Power Pack 3 beta
    • copy the required folder(s) to your server
    • uninstall Power Pack 3 beta from your server.

Unfortunately, if you don't still have the installer, you will probably have to reinstall Windows Home Server.

  • I had this problem and found an easier solution is to:

RDC on to your WHS system
Select Control Panel-Add/remove Programs (make sure 'Show Updates' is ticked)
    Find PP3beta and uninstall
    Reboot WHS
    Start WHS Console
    Select Update

and PP3RTM will appear in the list to be installed.

  • Ken, is there not an exe that I can force to install? What about PP2, can I reinstall that?

  • Power Pack 2 won't install over Power Pack 3 (beta), and there's no direct download for the Power Pack 3 package, I'm afraid. If there were, it would probably also refuse to install over Power Pack 3 (beta).

  • Could I download WHS Eval from Microsoft (PP3 slipstreamed) and repair my server with it?

  • Not directly via a server reinstallation. The eval would not accept your current product key, and even if it would, it's still time-limited software and would expire after 120 days. You could, however, use it in a VM as I suggested above, then copy the required uninstall folders once you had updated it to Power Pack 3 (beta). Those bits won't expire. There's no need to activate the temporary installation you would be using as the donor, by the way.
