communications mechanisms for client-server HPC relationships RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello everyone,

What would be a, or the highest performing communication mechanism for client -server relationships across a cluster something that would be a lot better than writing files, can someone emnlighten me to a method and point out any pitfalls of methods.  Thank You

  • hi,

Assuming that your entire application is running on the cluster, then MPI applications with the appropriate network gear would give you the best client-server performance. A know model for MPI is the worker farm, where rank 0 sends work items to a collection of workers.

With currently off the shelf InfiniBand or Myricom network gear, you can achieve 2usec network latency for small messages and 2GByte/sec throughput using MPI.
