Money 2005 (restore) RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been using the program since 2005/06.   I recently had my my PC re-imaged, but before that I backed up all my Money data onto three floppy disks.

I have reinstalled Money several times.  I go to Restore Backup all to no avail.  It either says it cannot open My Money.mny  or does not recognise my password which I know is correct.

I have tried copying the backup files from floppys to the hard disk again it hasn't helped.

    Has anybody got any suggestions?

BTW I am in the UK, and am running Windows XP.

    Thank you in anticipation.

  • Go to to the top posting in this forum. Locate and download the UK install file. Run the installation on the new machine. Then you will be able to restore.

I am glad you were easy to copy the contents of your floppies to the hard drive. Floppies frequently fail. The files you copied from the floppies  will be named *d1.mbf, *d2.mbf, *d3.mbf and so on. Copy them into the same folder on the hard drive if you did not do so already.

In WE, double-click the *d1.mbf file.  That should launch Money and
start the restore.  When Money prompts for the next diskette, click

If you are restoring directly from floppy diskette, you can insert
the first floppy and double click the *d1.mbf file.  Change
    diskettes when prompted.

You will have a chance to change the location or filename for where
the restored data will go.  If this is a different computer, it is
especially good to browse to a location.  The old location may not
    even exist.
